I think the first Christian book(s) I remember reading is the Left Behind Series. Mind you, I may have read some others prior to that, but I honestly don't remember.
Several of my cousins were reading the series, and one evening at a baby shower they were talking about the current one that they were reading. They explained the series (up to that point) to my mom and me, and even lent us the first three or so books. This would have been late 1999, so I don't know what book the series was up to at that point. I do know there were at least three, because it was by book three that I knew I didn't want to be 'left behind'.
I've read many Christian books since then, and I must say I now prefer them to 'secular' books, basically because I don't have to read soft core porn in the pages, or tons of swearing and whatnot. Whenever I try to read secular books (which really isn't too often anymore), I find there's something missing from them. I have read some good secular books in recent years, but they just don't seem the same to me anymore. I'm not saying I'll stop reading them, but I find I read less and less of them - probably because my taste in books has changed since becoming a Christian nearly nine years ago.

Faith 'n Fiction Saturday
I came across Faith 'n Fiction Saturday over at My Friend Amy and decided to join in the fun. I believe it is weekly, and that a question is posted and you write your reply to it. Here's this week's selection:
Today's Question:We all come to faith in Jesus at different times in our lives and we all come to Christian fiction at different times, too! What's the first book in the Christian fiction genre you can remember reading? What was your impression of it? Did it make you want to read more or less?

I find myself nodding as I read your answer. Come see mine.

ha! to be fair there are some positive and clean general market books, but I understand where you're coming from. :)
I havent read the Left Behind series, but remember when they were all everyone talked about.
I also like being able to relax and enjoy Christian fiction since it doesnt have all that other stuff in it too.
What an absolutely wonderful answer. I still read secular fiction as well, but I must admit that the desire is not that strong. I have a few favorite authors, but I have developed this love for Christian fiction in the past year, and I really feel I have to catch up on all I have been missing. :)
I've had quite a few people tell me that the Left Behind series was wonderful - it is a series I keep meaning to start - I've got the first few books, I just need to find them.
:) Wendi
Wendi, i seem to be following you and we are so alike. I too haven't read the left behind series but have heard good things. one day.
I haven't read all of the Left Behind Series but my husband did by all of the series on cd and listened to them.
This is so fun reading everyone's lists. I also forgot about the Left Behind series. I love being reminded about books I forgot.
