Journey In Poetry

Just wanted to post a quick little update on my poetry journey.

I've been working on a couple of different poems. I know that just like with writing a novel, it is not an easy task. What I mean is that even though most poems are short, sweet and to the point, it doesn't mean that the words come any easier. Poems, like prose, needs to be written, rewritten, edited, etc. before the final product is all shiny and polished.

The first poem I'm slowly working on is about gardening, and I'm trying to write it for my mom - since she loves working in her gardens, growing and raising beautiful flowers. In all honesty, I haven't spent a lot of time on this one yet, and I haven't gotten to the rewriting and editing stages yet.  The other poem is Christian themed, and I'm trying to get it done up for Easter (not necessarily an Easter themed poem). I've worked at this one more, done a little rewriting, etc., but I don't know if it's completely finished.

One question I have, is how do you know when it's finished - when you don't need to do any more rewriting and editing? I know some people will say that as long as you, the poet, likes the result then that is what matters. However, I'm sure there is more to it than that. I think the second poem I mentioned above may be finished, but I'm not sure. I want to make sure it's at the point where I can share it with others - and know it's the best it can be.

My question to you: When do you think (or know) a poem is complete and doesn't need any more revisions?
