As I mentioned in a previous post (scroll down), I've decided to try my hand at poetry. I've purchased a book to help - it's one from the Dummies series. Apparently those books are good, but I don't know if it is exactly what I need at this point. However, on the positive side, any "how-to" type book will help me at this point.
I've only read some of it so far (been busier than normal this week), and hasn't been the how-to info yet - just the explanations, talking about poetry, why it's important to read poetry if you want to write it...that sort of thing. The info I'm really wanting (how to write poems) comes later. I want to jump immediately to it, but it's probably wiser if I read this part as well.
I've also been trying to write a couple of poems. I haven't finished any of them yet, but they are definitely beginnings. I know that as with writing novels, essays, etc., poetry needs to be revised and edited as well. That will come later. For now, I thought it might be good to at least have a few poems to work with once I get to that part of the book.
I have no idea if poetry is something I'll end up enjoying (reading or writing) or not, but I'm going to give it a try!
Still looking for suggestions on Christian poets (or other poets as long as the writing is clean, no swearing, etc.), websites, books that teach how to write poetry, etc. Let me know in the comment section, please!
